Abstract

Objectives: This study would understand the negative factors related to the adult subjects¡¯ oral conditions through the oral impact on daily performance(OIDP), concerning the impacts of oral health on life and investigate the correlations with their oral health care behaviors to promote their oral health care, which can be used as baseline data necessary for the development of more specific and more systematic oral health education programs.

Methods: This study was conducted as a self-administered survey finally with 198 subjects who were the participants visiting for the clinical dental hygienist practice at the Dept. of Dental Hygiene of D. University in B. from September 2019 through December 2019.

Results: In a comparison of oral environments according to the subjects¡¯ oral health care behaviors, the longer the subjectively felt brushing time, the lower the dental plaque index became, which was statistically significant (p<0.05). In the relationships of seven items with which the subjects responded that they had experienced with oral health care behaviors, of 10 items of the OIDP, the relationships of checking sugar content and chewing food were significant (p<0.01), and the relationships of snack intake frequency and speaking accurately were significant (p<0.05). the relationships of toothbrush replacement period and sleeping were significant (p<0.01), and the relationships of actual brushing time, laughing, and showing teeth were significant (p<0.05).

Conclusions: This study has a significance that it conducted a comparative analysis of the subjects¡¯ experience of discomfort in the OIDP items, oral health care behaviors, and oral environments, using the OIDP and checked the degree of oral health to examine the correlation between the OIDP and oral health care behaviors and the correlation with the quality of life, accordingly.
